you just never know what the weekend will bring...for this mommy it was pink eye

It has been an interesting weekend...

Dalton and mommy started it off right by heading to Krispy Kreme for donuts on Friday morning!  Dalton had seen an episode of Curious George when he ends up with LOTS and LOTS of donuts and wanted one...this was Thursday morning before MDO.  So I told him that Friday morning we would go so we did...he doesn't forget much that we promise him these days:)  He has only been once before and he's not really a BIG fan of them...but it's more about the experience!  However he did try strawberry milk for the first time and really liked it...he actually drank more strawberry milk than he did chocolate covered donut with sprinkles.  And that's okay with me:)  After breakfast if you can call that breakfast we headed across the street to Pet Smart to check out the pets of course!  Of course they only have gerbils, guinea pigs (he thinks they are all named Lenny...his cartoon friend on the Wonder Pets), fish, birds and of course the many dogs on leashes with their owners wandering the store!  Dalton thought they were pretty cool...he kept asking if he could get a pet...UGH!  The day is coming and he deserves one...just not sure when his mommy and daddy will be ready for one!  We also made a stop at Michael's craft store and picked up some cute wind up toys to keep him entertained when we are out and about...we got to test them out later that evening!  When Dalton got up from his nap we decided to go ahead and take him to the doctor since his nose and cough weren't getting any better and daddy wasn't feeling any better either so off we went!  And of course there was a little bit of a wait and someone in the family isn't really fond of waiting these days...imagine who!  Luckily this mommy came prepared with snacks, colors, books and yes the wind up toys from earlier in the day...they were quite a hit!  Mommy's have to keep their little bag of tricks FULL or else a melt down is inevitable...his or mine!

Saturday was pretty uneventfull if I remember correctly and we just hung out around the house!  Mommy did escape for some afternoon shopping with Grandma Bev when Dalton and daddy went down for their naps...Kohl's cash that was needing to be spent!

And then...I wake up Sunday morning with my eye crusted shut...and I have had pink eye before so...I knew exactly what this was and so I SCREAM...SCREAM...SCREAM!  So mommy headed to the doctor this afternoon where I probably picked up the pink eye because there was a little girl in the waiting room Friday night who had an eye infection of some sort...FANTASTIC!  Went to the pharmacy got my prescription filled bought all new make-up since mine is all contaminated...pricey!  And for all of those friends of mine who have teased me about always having my make-up on, etc. this is your chance to see the real me...no contacts or make-up for 5 days...I hope I survive!  Just what I needed the week of Thanksgiving...gobble gobble!

And one more thing...I can't remember which night daddy pulled his old guitar out for Dalton but HE LOVES LOVES LOVES it!  Ever since he played his cousins Guitar Hero he has wanted a guitar...he keeps telling daddy thank you for the guitar!  He strums, bangs whatever on it as soon as he gets up in the morning...it is SOOOOO cute because he has started making up songs about his school and so he sings them along while he is playing!  I have tried to video it several times and got busted every stinking time...I hope he gets over this phase soon of not wanting to have his sweet face in pictures or on video!  And last night he wanted to use the cord from his monitor to plug in his guitar...I am not sure where he got this at!  The only thing I can think of is that he saw our Godson Kaden plugging in his guitars when we visited them back in August...who knows but it was pretty smart on his part!

Daddy and Dalton just grinning...maybe he will grow up to be a rock star like he says he will!?!?!?

playdate fun

Today we joined Katie and her two kidos...Maddy and Luke as well as a new mommy and her two kidos...Ava and Greta at the mall for a play date!  It has finally started getting cold here so it was nice to let Dalton get out and run around without being cold...without mommy being cold that is...he could care less!  We played a little, ate a little, played a little more and if you can believe it...we actually saw Santa...he has already been at the mall for a week!  We were able to go in and say hello, tell him what Dalton wanted for Christmas and get a specail coloring book...Dalton was pretty excited and waved at him and actually walked up with me and talked to Santa!  He told him he wanted a crane...we spotted this new item on his wish list at BabiesRUS yesterday!  It is a CAT machine...remote control operated crane...Santa said if he was good for mommy and daddy he would see what he could do!

Some of you may be wondering why we were at BabiesRUS...not because there are any babies in our house that's for sure!  We (mommy, daddy and Dalton) have decided it is time for the "BIG BOY" bed and we were searching for a rail to go on the bed!  Wish us luck on our new adventure...however we will have to figure out how to break down the baby bed before we can put his twin bed in his room!  I am sure there will be more on this story to come...what's next...potty training?!?!?  Probably not for awhile...NO INTEREST AT ALL!  Lots of talking about going potty but no interest in using any potty BIG or small!

open house

Last Thursday Dalton had his first open house at his MDO program!  So he took mommy and daddy on a tour of his school...so exciting!  His teachers said that he plays with most of the boys and a few of the girls and that he is their "weatherman"!  They say he will stand at the window and let them know if the weather is nice enough to go outside and play...that cracks me up!  They say he will say "it's not raining so we can go outside today"!  Not to surprising since outside was one of his first words!  They also told us that he has been putting sand in his pockets and making quite a mess when they go to change his diapers...it all falls out!  OOPPS!  That is weird because he has had a sand box for over a year at home and he has never done that...we will work on that one!  He showed us the kitchen area, did some coloring on the art easel and showed us his artwork that was hanging in the hall and from the ceiling.  He is still crying most of the time when I leave but only for a few minutes and that doesn't make my heart ache as much!  And he is sooo funny because this past Wednesday he said he needed to go to school becuase his teachers were missing him!  Wednesday is not a school day for him so isn't it just fitting that he would want to go on Wednesday and then on Thursday the day he is supposed to go he wakes up saying "I stay home with you today!"

Those toddlers they keep us guessing:)  And of course no pictures to post:(

harder and harder to take pictures

Dalton continues to make it harder and harder for me to capture all of his moves so I can post them for the world to see!  It makes me frustrated that he gets so ANGRY when I get the camera out...but I am listening to his words and putting the camera up for a little while!  Unless he's not looking of course...ha ha:)  I was able to capture a few pics from LAST Saturday...we had a busy morning and an unexpected visitor!

Early Saturday morning Dalton's daddy had a book signing along with several others at the school where he teaches!  Daddy said not to worry about coming because it was early, etc. so we said okay and then surprised daddy and showed up anyway!

Daddy, Dalton and the book...we are so proud of daddy!

Later that day I got a call from my sister asking if her oldest daughter could spend the afternoon with us!  Their youngest is really into horses and their oldest could care less and was being dragged around a horse show at the fair grounds!  So we were happy to let her come and play with Dalton for the afternoon!  It was a gorgeous day and we played and played outside...daddy decided to do some edging and mowing so Dalton felt the need to get his weed eater out too!  He is explaining to his cousin that it is very dangerous and it's just for big boys like himself!  Which is just another way of him saying it's mine and you can't play with it:)

How many cousins does it take to figure out the weed eater?!?!?

No really it's just for big boys!

The muddy sandy mess that Dalton calls fun!

A reluctant pose...and I only got him looking at the camera becuase his cousin asked him too...Dalton loves his cousins!

patience

The last week or so I have been SO TIRED and I have finally figured out what it is...Dalton is testing my patience more than ever!  You would think having him in Mother's Day Out twice per week would give me a break and I would be all rested up and have even more patience for his little tantrums but that doesn't seem to be the case!  I am not sure if it's his age or the exposure to other kids in his MDO that perhaps aren't as sweet and disciplined that have caused the rise in tantrums and his lack of patience for me and his daddy!  I feel like I find myself putting him in time out more than I would like to mainly for not listening and doing what we ask him to do...it works at the time but is it helping the problem in the long run...not really because we have the same power struggles later that day!  UGH!  I am at a loss so if you read my blog and have any suggestions for discipline that works for 2.5 year olds I am all ears!

leaves are falling

Today Dalton and I spent some time with my mom...well Dalton did anyway!  When we pulled up to her house he says "don't you need to run some errands?"  He likes his grandma Beverly all to himself but who could blame a kid for wanting the undivided attention of their grandparent!  They headed outside to play in the leaves...a new experience for Dalton since we live in such a new neighborhood there aren't too many folks out raking leaves these days...but never fear we shall have some after this summer's back yard makeover!   I only caught a few pictures before I got yelled at by a certain 2.5 year old and told not to take anymore pictures!  So I decided to let the good times roll with Dalton and grandma and I think that Dalton still has leaves in his hair!

Boy when that wind caught them they really took off...it was quite windy today!

Just about to toss them into the air...BIG SMILE!

After all of the leaf throwing we went to lunch with grandma and my sister and her two girls!  And then we headed for some frozen yogurt...we didn't get too crazy with the toppings this time...just sprinkles and M&M's!  This was the first time we have indulged in the BIG frozen yogurt craze that is sweeping America...I think we have one on every corner!  Whatever happend to TCBY?

halloween

Well, our Halloween fun started on Thursday with a Halloween Party at Dalton's MDO program!  It was lots of fun with a quick craft and lots of snacks!  There are NO PICTURES...yes I am sad because for whatever reason my camera was not cooperating!  But it allowed me to just hang out with Dalton and not worry about getting pictures...he is really liking MDO and gave both of his teachers hugs on the way out!  Later that evening we headed to the school where Daddy teaches and participated in their dorm trick or treating...this is our third year to go!  Dalton is not real sure about it because of all the attention that the well intended female students give him and all of the other cute kidos!  And of course being Bob the Builder this year everyone knew who he was adults and kids alike and almost everyone commented on it and he just doesn't really like all the attention!  But we stayed for a little while and had a fun time while we were there!

Daddy and Dalton off to get some treats!  I think he only actually said trick or treat once or twice!

Big smile...I am still in shock that he let me take a picture!

Dalton really likes Daddy's school and all of the sidewalks and big open spaces he can run around on!

Mommy decided to have Dalton help her carve a pumpkin...daddy took pictures!  Earlier he told mommy that he has only carved one pumpkin that he can remember and that he wasn't all the impressed with it...WHAT!  I can't believe it...but I can believe he was totally impressed with my pumpkin carving skills...not really!  Ours was S I M P L E this year but I did catch a pumpkin carving kit with the cool little knives for next year...makes cutting out shapes soooo much easier!  I let Dalton pick what shapes he wanted for the eyes and nose and then asked him if he wanted a sad or happy pumpkin...luckily he said HAPPY:)

New family tradition...carving pumpkin on Halloween!

Dalton is checking out the GOO but not really impressed with the goo or the smell of the pumpkin like I thought he might be!  So guess who go to do all of the cleaning out of the yucky pumpkin goo...that's right mommy did!

The finished pumpkin...so proud!

After Dalton's nap we headed to my parents house where we met up with my sister and her family as well as my brother and his family!  We exchanged halloween treats between the cousins and tried...may I emphasize TRIED to get some pictures of the cousins together!  Someone wasn't cooperating...hmmmm wonder who that was!  My sister and her family left shortly after pictures because they had other plans but my brother and his family stuck around with us and our parents for a YUMMY dinner, some play time outside because the weather was amazing, some trick or treating and of course we live in Oklahoma so football watching!

The cousins reading Dalton the cute Halloween book they got him!

Dalton not sure about their costumes...and of course he has already taken off his tool belt and construction hat.

Just another day...Halloween was no big deal to this little guy...he's just as happy mowing the sidewalk!

Just thought it was a cute one!

The best picture I got of the 4 of them...from left to right Wednesday from the Adams Family, an octupus and a witch minus her hat!  And of course lawn mowing guy/Bob the Builder standing uncooperatively by in the background!

When we got home Dalton wanted to go trick or treating at the neighbors so off we went...all of the sudden it was the cool thing to do!  We are lucky to live in a neighborhood where we know a lot of the neighbors it makes nights like tonight even more fun!

Dalton finally saying trick or treat for Sharon...I hope he did anyway!  Or that he atleast said thank you!  He was sooo funny...Sharon's little boy Jonas has a room right off the doorway and Dalton spotted his toys and he was about done trick or treating he wanted to play with all of the cool toys!

My last attempt to get a picture of him in his costume and this is what I get...NOOOOOOOO and a big old fit...it made him so mad that I wanted to take his picture and even more mad when he saw the flash go off and he knew that I got one!  Silly boy:)

Dalton and the pumpkins...one carved and one with Mr. Potato head pieces...they worked great!  He was happy to let me take this one...because it wasn't showing his face...ha ha!

We had a great Halloween but glad we can move on to less spooky holidays!  Between having the fire fighters visit his school and get dressed up in their gear and talk about fire and smoke and houses on fire and all of the talk about ghosts and goblins...Dalton had a little extra anxiety this month!  As he keeps telling me over and over again how he's not scared and that ghosts are pretend!  Bless his heart not the best time for his imagingation to be taking off like it is!  Oh and one more thing...wish us luck on the Halloween candy rule that he only picks out one piece per day!  And of course that rule applies to mommy and daddy too...ha ha hee hee ho ho!  NOT REALLY!
