happy father's day

Happy Father's Day to Dalton's daddy...my hubby! We had a super busy weekend that included a visit from daddy's mom...Dalton's other Grandma who lives out in western Oklahoma! Grandma arrived on Friday morning and treated us to lunch...one of Grandma's favorite things to do is eat out when she comes to the city! They don't have very many restaurants where she lives so she likes to treat us and herself when she's here!
Dalton played outside for a little while after lunch and after his nap...we finished watching our pergola be put up and got one last look at the tractor before it got loaded up on the trailer. And then we ate dinner and daddy mowed & edged the lawn...which is a BIG EVENT at our house because Dalton just LOVES to watch Daddy mow and have his bubble mower out there with him! Daddy recently got Dalton a toy edger too...just what he needs!
On Saturday we got up pretty early and headed to the local Farmer's Market and got some FRESH fruit and veggies plus some YUMMY honey! It was already so hot outside we decided to head to Unpluggits to let Dalton run around in some air conditioning! He went down the slides, did some painting, played with play doh and just ran around showing off for Grandma! Later we headed home for lunch and a nap...I think we all napped on this day that heat wears you out! After dinner we headed to another one of Grandma's favorite spots in town Braum's for some ice cream...it just hit the spot in this HOT HOT weather. Dalton wanted an ice cream sandwich...he has had one only once before from the ice cream truck in my parents neighborhood...but he definitely knew what he wanted when we asked him. Of course we had to buy the whole box because they don't sell them individually! So now we have plenty of ice cream sandwiches to keep us cool on a HOT, SUNNY afternoon!
On Sunday daddy got to choose where he wanted to go and what he wanted to do! He chose to go back to our old church (we just love the preacher there...he's also the preacher who did our pre marital counseling and married us...so he's kind of special to us)! Burt's aunt and uncle also go to church there and we wanted to surprise them and we did! Dalton also did great...if you have read any of our previous posts about Dalton and church/Sunday school he's not really a fan! So it has been really hard for us to go as a family but when we were at our old church which is A LOT SMALLER he was completely at ease and wanted to go into the Sunday school room. I went in and stayed awhile and then said I was going to go check on daddy and he said okay and stayed the entire service NO PROBLEMS! We may be headed back to our old church if he continues to stay in Sunday school there! It was nice to spend a Sunday morning with my husband listening to a nice sermon...just like the good old days! On the way home from church daddy requested Wendy's for lunch so that's where we ate and then after lunch we opened presents! After naps we headed to my parents to have dinner and celebrate Father's Day! GOOD TIMES! Daddy and Dalton's annual Father's Day picture...right after church!
Dalton helping daddy open up his cards, presents!

Mommy got Dalton's art work that he did for daddy for his birthday framed...daddy just had it taped up on his wall in his office! He also got a pair of shorts and another picture frame for his annual Dalton and Daddy picture. And we got a picture of Burt's families store matted and framed for him. Burt lost his father when he was in college and I wanted to help him to remember him and his store on Father's Day!

Dalton and his Grandma Wanda! Right before she was leaving to go back home!

Dalton, Grandma Wanda and Daddy together...we are so glad that she came and spent the weekend with us!

my child might be a redneck if...

Yesterday it was CRAZY hot outside like heat index of 100 degrees! And of course Dalton still wanted to be outside so Mommy put on her thinking cap and remembered the one-ring pool I bought at Wal-mart for $5 a couple of weeks ago that we had yet to blow up! Perfect...so when Dalton got up from his nap he helped me blow it up and fill it up...he always thinks it's funny when I blow up inflatable things...I guess one does look silly when taking on that task! Just a close up of my cutey!
Dalton's version of swimming...yes having his toes in the water and walking around! He would say things like "look momma Dalton swimming!" We are hoping to get to a BIG swimming pool sometime soon but until then he is perfectly content just letting his toes go for a swim! And he thought the water was pretty cold, too!

And my child might be a redneck since he grabbed his safety goggles off of his tool bench and said "Dalton need goggles"! I am assuming that he remembers seeing his cousins wear their swimming goggles last summer?!?!? Who knows where he gets some of his crazy ideas:)

mommy lied...dalton could be happier!

Well, I didn't know I was telling a lie at the time...ha ha! Much to Dalton's surprise yesterday evening he found a tractor with a front end loader attachment, etc. in his back yard! We are having some improvements made to our backyard this summer...phase one pergola, phase two breaking out old concrete patio and replacing with new/improved/bigger concrete patio and phase three 10 trees! We are currently in phase one...can't wait to see the look on his face when the concrete mixer pulls up to our house in early July...stay tuned! Initial reaction...shock...disbelief!
Ready to drive and look at THAT SMILE or is it a smirk?

Dalton trying to take time to smile for the camera...he was soooo busy checking out all of the gears, buttons, pedals, etc. He really like the button that made the lights blink off and on!

could he be any happier?

These pictures were taken today at my mom's house...just another 90 degrees plus day here in Oklahoma. And luckily Dalton's new favorite spot at this Grandma's house is in the shade...which is what we spend most of the day doing...chasing shade!
Over the weekend Dalton and I were supposed to be shopping for a Dad's day gift for his Daddy at Academy and who knew that they had a big toy isle?!?!? Well apparently Dalton did and he headed straight for it...and of course we found the coolest CAT dump truck, front end loader and trailer combo ever...lights, sounds and rumbling effect! Sorry Daddy...oh who am I kidding Daddy loves it too:) He has played and played with it in the sand, dirt, rocks, etc. That little boy loves his CAT machines and dirt too! Love that BIG SMILE! He thought it was pretty fun to be barefoot too! We don't usually go barefoot at our house especially in the flower garden...too many unknowns for me!
Silly Dalton!

Check out that muddy right hand...surprisingly he wanted to rush right in and wash his hands! You just never know with this little guy!

woody, buzz and cars...oh my!

Earlier this morning I received a phone call from my sister asking if Dalton and I wanted to join her and her youngest for a trip to the mall! Sure why not...so we did and had the usual requests to ride on the carousel, the jeep and play as well as the usual not really wanting to look at anything that mommy or anybody else wants to look at! Typical 2 year old right?!?!?
And then we entered the Disney store...and it's not our first trip to the Disney store but today for the first time Dalton really recognized some of the characters. Toy Story must be making a comeback because they had a huge display and Dalton was very excited about Woody and Buzz they even had Bulls Eye (Woody's horse from Toy Story 2)! And then he spotted the just as BIG CARS display...and the $29.50 set of Lightning McQueen and his entourage that Dalton thought he had to have! I am still not sure how we made it out of there without spending a penny! Yes, people I did not spend a penny...at the Disney Store! However, I did spend a few pennies at Chick-fil-a for lunch, on the carousel and some much needed sandals for Dalton! But Dalton and I both used our will power and did not purchase anything from the Disney Store...I guess I should start saving now for our future trip to Disney World (several years down the road)...I will be such a sucker at the Magic Kingdom!

Yes, I bought Dalton a pair of "character" shoes...UGH! He has refused every other pair of sandals we have tried this summer...these are pretty cool since they light up when he walks! Thanks Payless Shoes...isn't it every parent's dream that their kido walk around from head to toe looking like a billboard for their favorite character...NOT REALLY!

ABSENCE MAKES THE HEART GROW FONDER!

I can't believe it has been SOOO long since my last post! Well, actually I can...I have been trying to enjoy being in the moment more with Dalton and not so focused on capturing the picture, etc. We have been busy and I will catch you up on all of that when I get the pictures from the "other" people who took them during my camera strike! This is one Dalton took himself...of his own eyeball and very cloudy sky! It's a bit abstract...maybe he's a bit more artistic than I give him credit for!
