day out with Pa

Pa served in the National Guard before he married Grandma...a few years ago!  And daddy's daddy served in World War II...way before he married Grandma Wanda!  WOW...thank you grandpa's for being so brave and we thank you for your service!

And this  week Dalton's Pa had a couple of days off work...so he took Dalton and mommy up on our offer to take him to the 45th Infantry Museum here in OKC that we gave him for I believe Father's Day!  Mommy thought that it would be a good bonding experience for both of them...boys, army tanks, bazookas, helicopters, ambulance, etc.  I am not sure how appropriate this was for Dalton only being 3 and all but he had a good time anyway!  Daddy had taken him a week or so ago when mommy got a little free time to go shopping with her birthday money!  Yes...mommy had a birthday and we will blog about that at a later date!  Today was supposed to be for Pa and Dalton but at the last minute Dalton was according to him "worried" about going without mommy!  No biggie I like to spend time with Pa too so off we went...we picked pa up and look at what he had on!

Pa thought it was a little tight but Dalton thought it was pretty cool...it has been just a few years since pa wore that jacket!
Too small for pa and WAY TO BIG for Dalton...maybe next year...ha ha!  Still fun to try it on...he couldn't find his hands:)
Dalton knew exactly where he was going...he wanted to show us the missile on the back of this truck!  Pa was trying to tell him all about some of the other vehicles but Dalton had other plans...remember he was here just a week earlier with his daddy...the layout is fresh on his memory!

He was quite the tour guide he was ready to head inside to the indoor part of the museum...he was on a mission!  Pa and mommy just tried to keep up!
He wanted pa to find his patch...not sure that he ever did!  And this picture was taken before I saw the MANY no flash photography signs posted everywhere...oops!  There were lots of cool jeeps and ambulance a mess hall and Dalton had to show it all to us...and once again pa would try to show him some of the jeeps that he rode in and Dalton's attention span just wasn't quite cooperating.  Pa was a good sport...he will have to go back another day and be his own tour guide...this one went a little too fast!

Back outside and he actually wanted his picture taken with pa!  It was a beautiful day with a great break in the heat...it was about 83 degrees when we were there and it has been a good 10-15 degrees warmer than that over the past couple of weeks!

Just a picture of some of what the outdoor museum has to offer!  There was even a cool troop carrier that goes from land to water...

Pa spotted the dump truck mommy and Dalton both missed it...that just doesn't seem right!

We got all the way back to the car and Dalton remembered the bridge...so off they went to check it out...

A little basic training going on here...running up the hill!  Dalton won of course:)
After our museum adventure we headed to Freddy's Frozen Custard for yummy cheeseburgers or grilled cheese if your name is Dalton and of course fries and yummy custard if your name is Dalton!  Then we dropped pa off at his house and played outside a little while in grandma Beverly and pa's backyard...good times!

I am sure as Dalton grows older he will have a greater appreciation for the military and his Grandpa Delaine and Grandpa Tom's time in the service and all of the others who have served our country so honorably!  But until then he will just start preschool in a couple of weeks and tell them all about the bazookas, army tanks and missiles that he saw over the summer...fantastic!

sometimes we just need a good laugh

A couple of weeks ago Dalton's Grandma Beverly took care of him while mommy had lunch with a friend!  Grand kids are always in good hands with their grandmas...and these pictures prove it!  Could he be having anymore fun?!?!?!

Here Dalton is digging in his very own special pile of dirt...Pa had some left over dirt from a backyard project and he thought Dalton might find it fun to have his own dirt pile!  Sure enough he was right...the look on his face when he found this dirt pile for the first time was SO SWEET...Pa left this for me and it's even in the shade!  You know it's been a hot summer when the 3.5 year old is talking about how nice something is because it's in the shade!

Dalton playing in the sprinkler...you can start to chuckle a little bit here but the next picture will give you a belly laugh!  It did this mommy anyway!

Pure summer fun...they are his super hero glasses/goggles that he found at Grandma Beverly and Pa's house!
When I saw this picture on Grandma's camera I laughed so hard...but the story gets better!  Two of his cousins saw the picture a week or so later when they were staying the night with Grandma Beverly and Pa and thought that they would get in on the fun too...check them out!

SO CUTE!

Even the middle school cousin got in on the fun!  Now we just need to get the 16 month old in on the fun and the Grandparents will have quite a set of pictures to show off to friends and family...hee hee!

nature

It has been a CrAzY hOt summer yet somehow Dalton always finds a mud puddle to play in...probably because this mommy has spent her summer watering all of the lovely new landscaping from this year and the trees from last summer so that we don't lose them to the hEaT wAvE!  Therefore Dalton is helping or has the hose or sprinkler all to himself...SCARY!  But he loves it so I love it because it makes him so stinkin happy to just be making mud puddles, jumping in mud puddles, making muddy hand prints and footprints all along the sidewalk...that's my favorite part!

Dalton's muddy hand prints...I just couldn't wash them away!

A couple of posts ago you may remember that Dalton and mommy started a pumpkin patch...well it's growing and growing!  It's even bigger than the below picture now...I am thinking that mommy may have planted too many seeds...it still seems crazy that all of those twisty vines, yellow flowers and now pumpkins came from those tiny seeds!
It's not the prettiest spot in the backyard but boy are we excited when we find tiny pumpkins in there...it's like a big treasure hunt!

This past weekend we found one of the tiny pumpkins...please remember we planted 3 different sizes plus misc. gourds!  Who knows what all we will be harvesting in the next 30 days or so!  He was SO PROUD of his pumpkin he took it everywhere he could and has shown everyone who has been over to our house!  I am impressed that he is still interested almost 2.5 months later:)

This is the second summer in a row that butterflies have come and laid eggs on Grandma Beverly's parsley on her patio.  And we get to watch them hatch and turn into caterpillars and grow and grow and grow...and then turn into beautiful butterflies!  Well so far only Grandma Beverly's have left their chrysalis...ours are still hanging on.  Grandam Beverly got to release 2 butterflies today...we are keeping a close eye on ours and hope they break out soon!
It's hard to take a picture of this little creature in his BIG glass jar...so this is as good as it gets:)

summer is practically over and I have been a bad blogger all summer...boo

Not sure where to begin...

Oh now I remember WAY BACK on Father's Day!  I was wanting daddy to blog about it since it is his day after all but I am not sure that is ever going to happen so here goes!  We opened a few presents, went to church and had dinner with Pa, Grandma Beverly and the rest of mommy's side of the family!  I wish I remembered more of the details but it was too many days/weeks/months ago:(

Daddy opening up his annual you are the coolest dad ever t-shirt!

Church on Sunday Morning...Dalton loves his Great Uncle Russell!  And I think Uncle Russell feels the same about Dalton...his face lights up a little bit when he sees Dalton in church on Sunday morning.
Dalton always holds Uncle Russell's hand and walks him out to his blue car...often Dalton will draw something blue and he will tell us it's Uncle Russell's car!

The departure hug...so so sweet!

Dinner with the family...always a good time:)
The Bedlam rivalry...Father's Day gifts from Grandma...if Uncle Kevin had been there Daddy would have been in trouble and out numbered!  All in good fun of course:)

Did I say earlier that it's always a good time...well that may not be true most of the time it's a good time!  This is as close as we got to a family pic...my sarcastic smile, Dalton mad and headed out the door because he doesn't want his picture taken and daddy in the middle!  Happy Father's Day to Dalton's daddy, my daddy and my hubby's daddy who is in heaven spending Father's Day with the greatest father of them all!  Dalton had not asked about his daddy's daddy until a couple of weeks before Father's Day and when he asked where he was I simply told him that he was in heaven with God and he simply said "Oh I bet he is having a lot of fun up there!"  What a sweet boy...

soccer skills...we shall see

Lots going on here just not a lot of time to blog about it but this is one of  Dalton's "firsts" so I thought I should take some time before the moment is gone...aka...I forget to post these fun pics!

Two weeks ago we signed Dalton up to play soccer with the YMCA...we hope he gets the coach that we are friends with but if not we will just make some new friends:)  Dalton and mommy headed to the YMCA to sign up, pay registration fees, get our jerseys but not to play soccer...well all Dalton cares about is playing soccer!  He didn't throw a fit or anything when we left and he didn't get to play any soccer...we didn't even get to buy his jersey because they didn't have any yet.  But when daddy got home in a sad voice Dalton tells daddy how he didn't get to be on the team!  He is very much into this being on a team thing...pretty unusual for a three year old!  Well daddy comes out and is like what happened why doesn't he get to play and then I explain to daddy and Dalton what we did at the YMCA and how soccer doesn't start for like another 4-6 weeks or something...I am sure that my 3 year old totally gets it now...NoT reAlLy!  Then last week mommy got lucky and got some sweet deals on Nike soccer cleats and shin guards for the little guy...so cute!

Daddy didn't play soccer, mommy played maybe a season or two (wasn't any good), his uncle Kevin had some cool soccer skills...maybe Dalton will get lucky!  But skills or no skills the boy likes to run so this should be a great sport for him:)
Check out those new shoes...he wore them around the house today and to go over to Grandma Beverly and Pa's house for a short visit!

He had to wear his "team" clothes!  He just had to have this shirt at Children's Place a couple of months ago because according to Dalton it's a team shirt and if he doesn't have one he's not on the team...I guess because it has a number on it!
