family lunch date

It has been a crazy week or so at our house and not a lot of together time for the three of us...so we decided to have a family lunch date today and headed to Arcadia, OK for lunch at the famous POPS!  Mommy has been there once before and this was daddy and Dalton's first time...who would have thought it would have been SOOOOO BUSY on a Thursday for lunch!  We sure didn't but we got there early enough and actually ate outside under their patio with fans and misters and it wasn't that bad...the inside was SOOOOOO crowded and overstimulating that lunch would have been a disaster!  We had cheeseburgers, fries and yummy onion rings and Dalton had a grilled cheese with fries and lemonade!  Mommy was all ready to go pick out our crazy soda pops to take home and no one but me wanted one...oh well!  So mommy got a vanilla creme to share with Dalton...he's not big on carbonated drinks...he says they tickle his tongue and I guess they do a little.  But he was very impressed with the large soda pop bottle and straw and was ready to climb to the top until mommy reminded him of the sign right in front of him that said no climbing...PlEaSe!  It's really sad that they have to tell people not to climb on this extremely tall soda pop bottle!  I didn't get the classic picture of your kid in front of the soda pop bottle because daddy was filling up the SUV with gas (it's a gas station too you know) and cars were flying in and out of the parking lot and I was being a helicopter parent and hovering over my child!

The gas pump...with the pops logo...it's official we were there!

We headed a little further down Route 66 and checked out...

The famous big red round barn...ooh ahh ooo!

Got a couple of cute pics of Dalton before we had a heat stroke and then headed home to the air conditioning!
He looks VERY TINY next to the BIG ROUND BARN...don't you think!?!

He looks a little grumpy too don't you think!?!?!?  But still cute of course!

Checking out some of the old farm equipment that was on display...he also took an interest in the out house that had been remodeled for display only.  I told him it was an out house and he misunderstood me or something and he kept calling it a pee pee house...and I guess you could call it that too!

We had grand plans to go home and put up our pop up tent and get the blow up pool out and mommy wasn't paying attention to how windy it was and didn't ask for the help that she needed and by the time that I did it was too late and the tent was about to lift mommy and daddy both off the ground!  So one rip in the canvas and one broken piece of metal we are without tent before the summer is over...so bummed there goes our 10x10 square of guaranteed shade!  Mommy will be heading to get a new one and hoping that they are on sale in the near future:)

more ways to stay cool when the temp is 99 and the heat index is in the 100's

This picture was taken about 2pm technically in the shade on our patio...by shade I mean not direct sunlight!  It's been like that for about a week or so now...YUCK!

Hanging out with cousins at their cool pool...
He thought he was going to go surfing...careful...he might get more than he bargained for!
For someone who doesn't trust that their life jacket will keep them from sinking he's getting pretty darn brave here!
This is where he spent 99% of his time...those cousins put a smile on his face...he thinks they are SOOO FUNNY and most of the time they are!  And pa was pretty brave too standing SO CLOSE...those grand kids like to splash...Dalton included!

Snow blizzard in a can...aka shaving cream!  This momma had a couple of cans of cheap shaving cream packed away just for a day like today...too hot to go outside and a kiddo that wants to be outside so bad!  He was having a grand old time...I think that making all of the shaving cream come out was his favorite part!  He is in there in his underwear...no naked shots!
We turned his bulldozers into snow plows and they went to town moving all of that snow around!  Speaking of snow...the other day after this snow adventure he says "mom we should go see Carter and make snow angels"!  His friend Carter lives in Minnesota and we have talked about all of the snow that they get...I told him that it does snow there quite a bit but I didn't think they had snow on the ground right now...funny kid!  Plus it's kind of a VERY LONG drive!

Dalton decided that his pop up school bus was a great idea for a camp out in his room!  This mommy and daddy say why not...and then mommy had a great idea that maybe his mattress from his crib will fit and sure enough it did and we were lucky enough that it was handy!

This is the next morning when he is pretending to be asleep for the picture...but he did sleep in it all night long and didn't get up once that this mommy is aware of!  But it must not have been that cool because he hasn't asked to sleep in it again...he will play in it but he wants to sleep in his big boy bed!
Dalton cracking himself up in his school bus tent...he can't keep a straight face for long!  Mommy loves that about him!

The kid loves to play fire fighter with the water hose...and I got busy doing something and I hadn't heard anything out of him in a little bit so I go looking and this is what I found!  Right behind his swing set...the grass is bare and he made himself a BIG BIG mud puddle and he was already covered from toe to the top of his head!  Those splashes would go all the way up his shorts and back down again.  He was just giggling and giggling and of course so was mommy after the initial shock!

Dalton's first movie...Toy Story 3!  He is a fan of the first two and we were so excited to take him to his very first movie!  Grandma Beverly and his two oldest cousins joined us!
Dalton was great and sat through the whole movie and even had his 3D glasses on too!  And when the movie was over he asked if we could watch it again.  We have gone a couple of times after that to their $1 summer kid movies and the new of the movie theatre experience has worn off and he only lasted about 45 minutes but that's still good for a 3 year old!

More slip n slide time...he's getting the hang of it now!  He almost made it to the pool of water at the end...nice try big guy!

the cutest cowgirl we know

Dalton's cousin Emily loves loves loves horses and takes horseback riding lessons!  Her dream is to be a famous horseback riding person...her words just the other day in the car...she will be 7 in October!  We have wanted to go and watch for sometime and last week we got to do just that...the ones of her actually riding didn't turn out that well because of the lighting in the indoor arena but I sure enjoyed watching her and Dalton loved the tour that his Aunt Dawn gave him around the stables while I watched.  Dalton loves horses too but his attention span is not that long unfortunately...there was much more that he wanted to explore...

This is Dusty the same horse that she fell off of a couple of weeks ago and she got scratched up and bruised pretty good but got right back up on her at her next lesson!  Now that's a real cowgirl...so proud of her and her horse riding accomplishments!
Weaving in and out of the cones...she did a great job!

cock-a-doodle-do...their were lots of chickens!  Dalton was worried that they were escaping because they were just running around everywhere in and out of the fence!  He kept trying to get close to them and one even slipped on some hay in the barn trying to round a corner to get away from him...pretty funny sight to see!

Dalton loves CATS...whose child is this anyway!  Mommy and daddy are neither one a fan of the cats...and just are luck when I was talking to Dalton the other night I said would you want a baby brother or a baby sister and he said UHMMMM...just a cat!

It's his lucky day there were more than one...

BlLuRy...but too sweet not to post!  He is headed with her to put her horse up!

They are putting her back out with the other horses...Dalton thought he was hot stuff getting to help!

A foal...so sweet!  She had been teething on the fence...Dalton was very concerned about the fence!

More time with the foal...they were all three loving the attention they were getting and giving!

The next day his cousin Emily was set to spend the night...we had gone to the movie earlier in the day with Grandma and then broke for naps!  Yes...Dalton actually took about an hour and a half nap...I did not know what to do with myself!  And then got back together for a quick dinner and some playtime...we feel so fortunate that we have family SO CLOSE!  We hope they feel the same way about us...ha ha!

Playing trains on the track that mommy and Dalton built the day before that took up half of our living room!

Dalton actually took this picture of Emily and he said say...slumber party!  It came out pretty darn cute!

Dress up time...the S.W.A.T. team has arrived!  Watch out!

They had a HUGE HUGE...VERY HUGE bubble bath!  That is Dalton sitting down they had a blast making funny hats with all of their bubbles...good times!

one more zoorific day before the 100 plus heat index returned...a couple of weeks ago

Grandma Beverly had not seen the "new" children's zoo yet so we me decided to take her and meet Dalton's uncle Kevin, Aunt Joanna and his baby cousin bright and early at the zoo 8:30am!  No biggie for us...remember Dalton rises between 6-7am...and these days closer to the 6am hour!  The weather was still hot but not unbearable...enjoy some more zoo pics!  We have not been back since...way too hot even at 8:30am...and that stinks because we LOVE THE ZOO...and it's kind of free because we have the zoo pass!

We had just walked in the zoo and saw this most beautiful creature...that is the first all white peacock this mommy had ever seen.  He just paraded around for us...it was almost comical!

It didn't even care that the mini street sweeper was headed right for him...of course Dalton lost all interest in the peacock once he saw the street sweeper!

When you get to the zoo at 8:30am you see lots of maintenance going on...cool stuff to a 3 year old boy!

Just a pretty pic...this animal according to the zoo tram guy (yes we go to the zoo WAY TOO MUCH) has the body of a horse, the head of a giraffe and the stripes of a zebra...you can't see the stripes because they are on their lower body...I always thought it was just an odd looking animal until I heard all that...pretty interesting stuff!

It's always funny to me when the giraffes bend over to eat and have to make their knees bow in because they are SO STINKING tall that they can't get to the ground otherwise!

Dalton belting out his best gorilla roar...thanks uncle Kevin for supervising while mommy took the picture...didn't want him slipping off!

The REAL DEAL...his head is massive and I don't want to think about the rest of his body...these animals amaze me and I could watch them forever!

4th of July...was a little bit different this year

This past weekend 4th of July was a little bit different...it is definitely one of mommy's most favorite holidays...the parade, the family, the food  and the fireworks!  Well...we had the family and the food but no parade or fireworks for Dalton...mommy snuck out that night and saw some fireworks in the night sky!  Dalton told me that when he is bigger he will go to the parade...when the loud noise doesn't bother him...we have gone with him the past two years but last year was pretty loud and apparently he remembers it!  So we decided that we would have the family over for lunch when they got done with the parade and let the kids play and the adults talk and play too!  The weather was
RAINY RAINY RAINY so we weren't outside as much as we had hoped but other than that it was lots of fun!
"the cousins"  Dalton wanted NO part of the pictures...I think that was the only rage he had all day was people taking pictures of him!

apparently his oldest cousin didn't get that he didn't want to be in the picture...if you could only hear his rebellion...

We did start a new 4th of July tradition...planting a pumpkin/gourd garden!  After our landscape install earlier in the summer we have a large mound of dirt in the back of the yard so Dalton and mommy worked on prepping the dirt and planting all of our vines and seeds!  Mommy love love loves pumpkins and Dalton is very excited too and keeps telling me how much his pumpkin vine has grown.  Their is a 90 day waiting period for pumpkins, etc so we will see how long we both stay interested:)

it's not pretty...we simply killed off some of the grass about a week ago and then on the 4th we turned over the soil and planted our vines and some additional seeds...big pumpkins, medium pumpkins, tiny pumpkins and assorted gourds...mommy simply can't wait to not spend a fortune at the pumpkin patch this year and be able to have her own in her backyard

the planting...

And these last pictures I took tonight...just a reminder of why we love our backyard...we get some of the best sunsets not to mention views of firework displays on the 4th of July!
